“Cham,” not a claim of “original”: the name story of Chamgadeok Makgeolli

A name story that separates the 1919 Gadeok lineage from the business opened on 2018-03-01 and says the intent behind “Cham” is unverified.

One name, separate dates

The 1919 in city material is the first Gadeok Makgeolli launch and regional lineage. The 2018-03-01 in the NTS guide is the opening date of the current Cheongju Chamgadeok business. The two dates are not joined into one continuous corporate founding.

A word is not an intent

“Cham” can evoke truth or rightness in Korean, but the reason it was chosen for the name is unverified. The headline therefore does not claim it was chosen instead of “original”; it is only a question for reading the name.

A lineage only as lineage

Cheongju’s note that several products use the Gadeok name shows a regional brewing lineage. It is not evidence of one continuously operated company, recipe, trademark, or present legal status.
