MAKGEOLLI
Saengtak: a light 6% ABV opening for a Busan evening
Soft sweetness, savory grain aroma, light texture, and refreshing carbonation. This everyday 6% ABV Busan makgeolli is described differently under different tasting conditions.
The body is light. A Korean record notes sweetness, sungnyung-like grain flavor, and nuruk aroma without measuring intensity; carbonation ranges from moderate to weak. Clear acidity and finish length are unconfirmed.
A taster imagined Saengtak with gukbap or haejangguk. Take a short cold sip after hot broth and see how sweetness and carbonation change the palate; this does not indicate a particular restaurant’s stock.

Soft sweetness, grain flavor, and an aroma associated with nuruk, the Korean fermentation starter, sit over a light texture. One tasting found moderate carbonation; a 2026 Japanese traveler found weak carbonation and a round taste. The producer emphasizes natural carbonation from low-temperature fermentation and aging but does not explain the difference.
Masillog travel note
Masillog travel note — reconstructed from public material, not an on-site report. Imagine the green bottle catching your eye in Busan before the menu, between hot broth and a cold first sip.
Behind the bottle
A Japanese traveler's account parses the name as saeng, meaning “fresh,” plus tak, meaning “cloudy,” and jokes that the Japanese reading sentaku sounds like the Japanese word for laundry. In Busan it is a drink name; for a visitor it becomes a small label pun.
Before the trip
A traveler's label record says 750ml, 6% ABV, refrigeration below 10°C, and 20 days. Check the actual Korean label; a 2024 agreement also covered expanding the use of local rice by Busan Hapdong Brewery and Busan Nonghyup.
