After the beach, a warm bowl of something simple can sound better than another sightseeing stop. In Chodang Tofu Village, south of Gyeongpo Beach, start with one decision: mild tofu or a spicy broth?

Start with the tofu itself

A mild sundubu dish puts the soft tofu at the centre of the meal. Choose it if you are more curious about the beans than the chilli. Side dishes and seasoning vary between restaurants, so a familiar menu name does not promise an identical spread.

Or go for a spicy seafood bowl

Jjamppong sundubu brings tofu together with a spicy seafood broth. If you are travelling with someone and the restaurant allows different orders, you could compare the two styles. Ask about the heat before ordering if you prefer mild food.

Save the names before you go

Search for 초당두부마을 on a map, and look for 순두부 or 짬뽕순두부 on menus. Tofu does not automatically mean a vegetarian meal: ask about meat or fish in the stock and side dishes. Save an alternative restaurant with the dish you want, so a long queue need not decide your afternoon.
